In Thailand, “Thaeng Mo Plaa Haeng” (
แตงโมปลาแห้ง) is watermelon cut into pieces and served with dried fish. The fish is grilled or
baked, then pounded in a mortar and finally fried together with shallots, garlic, sugar and other spices. This refreshing snack has been part of royal cuisine
since the reign of King Rama IV. The dish can also be found at under the reverse name “Plaa Haeng Thaeng Mo” (
ปลาแห้งแตงโม).
