“Naem” (
แหนม
) is a fermented pork sausage that originally comes from Vietnam. Raw meat is mixed with rice, garlic and salt and wrapped in
banana leaves. The fermentation process creates a sour taste that goes well with fresh herbs, chilli and raw vegetables. Naem is eaten raw, fried or used as an
ingredient in various dishes. In rare cases, beef is also used, which is known as “Naem Nuea” (
แหนมเนื้อ
).
